A Flat Expanding Universe One of the things I find very strange about the universe is scientists have determined the universe is flat. It extends outward but does not seem to have expanded very much up and down, for a simple way of putting it. Different scientific measurements have been taken but they all seem to point to this flatness. Scientists are saying even the distribution of the galaxies matches a flat universe. What we are really talking about is the geometry of spacetime, just to make things sound a lot more complicated. When I hear people talking about spacetime, my brain slips into hibernation. I believe I am at least of average intelligence, and using this as a standard I have to think many people feel the way I do when this subject comes up. I get the feeling even those talking about it do not understand the subject entirely and I am not blaming them. I just think there might be more to the topic than we currently have the full knowledge about. When we talk about the universe forming from a big explosion called the Big Bang that most scientists seem to accept, it just doesn’t fit the properties of an explosion. What I am talking about is an explosion blows everything out all around it unless it is known as a shaped charge which is configured to steer the force out in a certain way. What does this mean when it comes to the theory of the Big Bang? It means it either was not what we think of an explosion or it was purposely configured by someone or something to have the result it had. To me this means God had a plan or there was no explosion and the universe was created by some other means. There might be another explanation however, and that is we are not really inside what is the main part of the universe, but possibly inside something else and we only think we are actually inside the universe but don’t really know what we are inside of might be. By now I am guessing some of you might know what I am getting at. Yes, if you thought I might say we could be inside a black hole which is so huge we think we are looking at the entire universe but we are not. There are a few scientists who think this could be a possibility. If we are in a black hole, it could be growing and that would account for the acceleration increasing as we race away from other objects. If one asks an AI if there is possibility earth is in a black hole, you get a strange answer, at least I did when I asked. I was told it is extremely unlikely because they are far away. I have to wonder about this answer because if we were, we would know nothing about what was outside of that black hole. The measurements would only be of things inside it. There is also the possibility of something really strange going on with the universe based on a part of science we are yet to discover, just as we were surprised to discover all the strange things with quantum physics. If other dimensions really do exist what is their effect on our dimension and could they in some way be affecting our universe and we are unaware of it? This could mean there is a lot more to the universe than we currently see or understand. Most scientists believe time dilation occurs near black holes. Time is said to slow down and if one could orbit a black hole time would be moving much slower for them. Most scientists believe this, but most are not sure why the expansion of the universe exists, although many theories are put forward. My favorite, which might be just as good a guess as others is one I heard many years ago. Readers of this site have seen me talking about it before. It goes this way, there is a hole in our universe and matter is flooding in from another universe forcing the acceleration. It is like a hole in a dam where water pours out flooding the river below and causing it to flow faster. I have no way of truly knowing if other universes exist, but I am sure many of you have heard of the theory of the multiverse, where many different universes might exist and some believe they do and some might even be touching ours and this could be how a rip in ours and theirs happened. There are other theories like the steady state theory which suggests that the universe doesn’t gain matter because the matter from destroyed objects is recycled into new stars thus the amount of matter never increases. I guess this might mean the universe is not expanding we are just being pulled along as new stars and galaxies are created until we are destroyed, but it doesn’t seem logical because somehow the energy would have to wind up at the starting point of the creation. The inflation theory, while not being widely accepted suggests when the Big Bang created the universe there was such a tremendous inflation in a very short time that we are still expanding. This does sound a little more reasonable. The bottom line however is, we really don’t know why the universe is expanding. Is the fabric of space really expanding or do we only think it is? It has been said we know the very fabric of space is expanding because of the red shift in the light of distant objects. There have been some problems with red shifts before and that was when newer stars were detected but they had red shifts meaning they were accelerating away from us. How do we know while the objects are moving the very space surrounding them is expanding? I have no answer for this and am still wondering about it, but science says the space itself is expanding. As I was doing more research on this, I came across an opinion which stated the fabric of space was not expanding in a way we might think. This just complicates the idea even more. It then went on to say the space between galaxies is expanding causing them to move apart. If you head doesn’t hurt after all this, you are a lucky person. I think we just need more facts and as we build bigger and better instruments and get out into the space between galaxies, we might be very surprised at what we find.
